Boeing receives FAA certificate for MAX 8, rolls out MAX 9

American airframer Boeing has announced that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified the 737 MAX 8 for commercial service. The airframer is preparing for the first 737 MAX 8 delivery in the second quarter of this year.

To earn certification, Boeing used a fleet of four test aircraft to undertake comprehensive test program. The test program also included ground and laboratory testing. Following the certification process, the FAA has granted Boeing an Amended Type Certificate for the 737 MAX 8.

737 MAX 9 rolls out

Earlier this week, Boeing rolled out the first 737 MAX 9 at it’s Renton plant in Washington.

The 737 MAX 9 is the second member of the 737 MAX family, it has a maximum capacity of 220 passengers and a range of 3,515 nautical miles. The MAX 9 will be followed in 2019 by the smaller MAX 7 and the MAX 200.

The airplane will now conduct system checks, fueling and engine runs on the flight line. Following this, the airplane will begin flight testing in the coming weeks .

The 737 MAX 9 is scheduled to enter service in 2018. To date the 737 MAX family has over 3600 orders from 83 customers.
