National carrier Singapore Airlines which will take delivery of the first of its 67 ordered Airbus A350-900s tomorrow will launch the aircraft on the Singapore Amsterdam route on May 9, 2016 as SQ324 and return as SQ323.

The first batch of Singapore’s long haul A350-900s are configured in a three class configuration with 253 seats. 42 in a 1-2-1 business class, 24 in a 2-4-2 premium economy, and 187 in a 3-3-3 economy class.

Just as with any new aircraft type at an airline, Singapore Airlines will initially deploy the aircraft on select short-haul destinations within Asia for crew familiarisation and training. Many civil aviation regulators require pilots to have about 100 landings in an aircraft type prior to operating long-haul services.

As more aircraft join the fleet, Singapore Düsseldorf will be a brand new route added in July.

The airline has also ordered seven A350-900s ultra-long-range variant which will be used to recommence the discontinued non-stop services between Singapore and United States in 2018.
