IndiGo to commence Bangalore Dubai flight in December

India’s largest domestic airline, IndiGo, will finally commence its first international flight from Bangalore when it starts operating to Dubai from December 15th.

An announcement on the airline’s website shows the schedule of IndiGo’s flights between Bangalore and Dubai.

6E 95 departs Bangalore at 07:20 arrives Dubai 09:50
6E 96 departs Dubai at 10:50 arrives Bangalore 16:20

IndiGo fares Bangalore Dubai round-trip

There are no special fares announced, but a quick check of fares for Bangalore to Dubai on December 15 returning on January 15, 2015 returned the fare below:

INR
Total price 18,893
Airfare charges 15,042
Taxes and Fees
Passenger Service Fee 147
User Development fee 1,538
Government Service Tax 745
Advance Passenger information fee 84
Dubai Passenger Service Charge 1,253
Dubai Passengers Security and Safety Fee 84
Total Fare Bangalore to Dubai 11,110
Total Fare Dubai to Bangalore 7,783

A search for fares on low cost carrier Air Arabia for the same travel dates revealed a fare of Rs 24,496.65 for a round-trip between Bangalore and Sharjah located very close to Dubai.

Better late than never

Though highly delayed, this is a welcome move by IndiGo. Till now passengers had very few low cost options to Dubai. IndiGo will surely tap the bargain hunters. The most directly impacted will be Air Arabia. Dubai-based Emirates which is the largest foreign carrier at Bangalore with three daily wide-body flights will also feel the pinch, but its target segment is more of the corporate traveller who dominates Bangalore’s passenger traffic by a large margin. Nonetheless, how it reacts to the newcomer will be interesting to see.

  1. Will 6E use an aerobridge/jetbridge for the first time at KIA? I’ve only seem them use busses! If they do use busses, they could be the first to use the lower gates on the international pier perhaps?

  2. I guess Indigo is using their 100th aircraft on this route. If yes, its an honor to Bengaluru!

  3. Ahhh… At last one desi LCC on the DXB BLR sector. I hope 6E will change to a business friendly timing. Ok during Dec/Jan – mostly VFR traffic

Indigo should also consider to start a flight from Goa to Dubai.

  5. EK regularly charges 17-18k from DEL for a DXB return ticket. Are charges from BLR vastly different that 6E is charging so much?

    • EK around 28K for the same dates. Spot fares Rs 40K. Bangalore is one of the highest yielding markets in the country. Lot of business driven traffic and even VFR is higher echelon due to knowledge industry workers.

Just now checked AI website and they have made following changes to their flights from Goa effective 16 November 2014. The evening flight AI662 will now operate as AI983 (Goa-Mumbai-Dubai). The late night flight AI330 operating as Goa-Mumbai-Bangkok will now operate as AI662 (Mumbai-Goa). This makes Goa to have a AI’s daily flight to Dubai via Mumbai in addition to direct flights AI993/994. But the only disadvantage is AI983 operating from Goa to Mumbai will halt at Mumbai for around 1 hour and 45 minutes before leaving to Dubai. The same goes even for AI984 (Dubai-Mumbai-Goa).

Sorry AI662 will operate as Goa-Mumbai (incorrectly mentioned as Mumbai-Goa in the above post)
