Indian Navy receives sixth Boeing P-8I maritime patrol and sub hunter aircraft

The Indian Navy’s sixth and newest Boeing P-8I maritime patrol aircraft has arrived INS Rajali better known as Arokkanam naval air station, about 55 km west of Chennai. Tail number IN325 arrived on November 24th on schedule. The final two deliveries of the eight aircraft order are scheduled in 2015.

The P-8I is the Indian Navy’s version of the famed P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol, search and rescue, and anti submarine warfare aircraft, which in turn is based on the world’s most popular narrow-body Boeing 737 Next-Generation twin-jet. Unlike the winglets used by the 737, the P-8A and P-8I use raked wingtips like the 777-300ER and 767-400ER. Major sub-systems of the P-8I from the United States are supplied by CFM International, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Spirit AeroSystems, BAE Systems and GE Aviation.

Prior to joining her five sisters on missions, IN325 will commence flight trials and systems testing of the various sub-systems that have been sourced from around the world including India. The P-8I uses an open systems architecture to specifically incorporate these disparate systems.
