Emirates to commence A380 service to London Gatwick

The world’s largest Airbus A380 operator, Dubai-based Emirates airline, will become the first to operate the A380 superjumbo in to London’s Gatwick airport.

The carrier who just took delivery of its 44th A380, will increase its seats by 36% when it replaces the existing Boeing 777-300ER on its EK09/EK10 flights between Dubai and London Gatwick, with the A380, from March 30, 2014 onwards.

Emirates will fly a 489 seat version of the A380 with 14 suites in first, 76 lie-flat seats in business and 399 seats in economy class. Premium passengers have access to the onboard lounge, and first class passengers can refresh themselves in the onboard shower spas.

The new A380 flights’ timings do not suit the early morning arrivals and late evening departures at Dubai for the Indian sub-continent. EK 009 will depart Dubai at 15:00 and arrive at London Gatwick Airport at 1930hrs. EK 010, will depart London Gatwick at 21:15 and arrive in Dubai at 07:20 the next morning.

Emirates’ current A380 destinations include Amsterdam, Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Dubai, Hong Kong, Jeddah, Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Manchester, Mauritius, Melbourne, Moscow, Munich, New York JFK, Paris, Rome, Seoul, Singapore, Shanghai, Sydney, Toronto, and Brisbane. Emirates will start operating scheduled A380 services to Zurich and Barcelona from January and February 2014 respectively.

Mumbai could soon be an A380 destination as the Indian government is expected to approve A380 operations at the financial capital soon.
