As per the GDS, Singapore Airlines will introduce its new Airbus A330-300 aircraft (cabin images with iPod support here) on the Singapore Kolkata sector from July 2, 2010.

It is a smart move by the carrier. Its A330s have the same two class (business and economy) configuration as the Boeing 777-200s it currently operates to Kolkata and Ahmedabad, but the Airbus A333s have only 285 seats compared to the 323 seats of the Boeing 777s. At the same time the cabin product of the A333s is vastly superior and includes iPod connectivity.

Singapore Airlines gets an aircraft better in tune for these smaller destinations and at the same time a cabin product upgrade.

As more Airbus A330s join its fleet, Singapore Airlines may be tempted to also replace the 777s on the Ahmedabad sector with the A330s.
