Mile Sur Mera Tumhara and Baje Sargam – A tribute to India on Independence Day

As a youth, I fascinated by this production on national integration by India’s state owned broadcaster Doordarshan. Titled “Mile Sur Tumhara Mera toh sur bane hamara” – if your tune matches mine, the melody is ours. This video launched the “Mera Bharat Mahan” (My India is great) campaign on Independence Day 1988 and has become an anthem showcasing Unity in Diversity.

I cannot think of a better tribute to India and it’s citizens on the 62nd anniversary of their Independence Day.

The video features a trip across India from the North to the South to the East and ending in the West.

It was followed by Baje Sargam, featuring dances and musical maestros from across India.
