Kenya Airways takes delivery of first 787 Dreamliner

Kenya Airways has taken delivery of their first 787 Dreamliner. The airplane registered 5Y-KZA departed Paine Field in Everett, Washington, USA for a 7,800 nautical mile (14,456 km) non-stop flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at Nairobi, the hub of the airline.

The airline has an additional eight 787 Dreamliners on order. Kenya Airways is undertaking “Project Mawingu” which focuses on increasing the airline’s fleet size from 44 aircraft to 107 by the year 2021 and from the current 62 destinations to 115 using a combination of Boeing 787s and 777-300ERs.

Currently the carrier operates an long-haul fleet of six 767-300ERs, four 777-200ERs and one 777-300ER.

  1. Kenya airways has very good future considering the strategic location and Europeans showing lot of interest in travelling to Africa. They should focus on Europe traffic like the Ethiopian Airlines does. They could also provide an efficient transit for Far East to South American destinations with better planning.
